128: UK’s McPartland Cyber Review

The UK government has initiated a new review of cyber security to enhance trust and confidence among business leaders in response to escalating cyber threats. Deputy Prime Minister Oliver Dowden highlighted the growth of the UK’s cyber security industry, generating over £10bn in revenue and £5bn in exports. The government appointed Stephen McPartland MP to lead an independent review, focusing on economic opportunities in cyber security and promoting trust in technology, particularly in generative AI. The review aims to support good cyber security practices, raise awareness, and reduce costs for businesses and consumers. This aligns with the government’s vision of establishing the UK as a technology superpower and complements the National Cyber Strategy 2022. The UK and French governments also hosted the Pall Mall Declaration event to address the proliferation of commercial spyware and establish international guidelines for oversight and safeguards.
