Historically, DNS management has been vulnerable during regional incidents such as power outages, fibre cuts, or AWS-specific issues in the US East (Northern Virginia) region. Minor faults might be mitigated, but major outages often prevent critical DNS changes just when they are most urgently required. AWS now states that DNS operations can be recovered in under an hour, with a 60-minute recovery time objective, allowing infrastructure provisioning to continue even through such events.
